Welcome to Plathville season 4 has leveled up on the Plath family dysfunction, from divorce talk to childhood traumas addressed and more.
TLC’s Welcome to Plathville is known for bringing the dysfunctional family dynamics, and season 4 has not disappointed on that front. There have been countless relationship problems, divorce discussions, and childhood trauma addressed. While fans love watching the show for its hilarious moments like Ethan, Olivia, and Micah Plath all getting drunk and going to a strip club for his 21st birthday, they also watch for the raw emotional scenes.
Welcome to Plathville follows the lives of Kim and Barry Plath, along with their nine children, who were all raised on a remote farm away from outsiders. They have all handled their exposure to the outside world differently, like Moriah and Micah Plath embracing the change quickly, with Ethan often reverting back to his old habits like fixing cars. In Welcome to Plathville season 4, Kim quickly changed her entire personality, going from the main proponent of living their sheltered lives, to suddenly wanting to drink, run her own business, and be a free woman.

Kim and Barry’s divorce has been a main storyline throughout the season. Plathville fans first thought it was faked for views, but Kim seems set on getting a divorce from Barry. She has started blaming him for being the reason they raised their kids in such a strict manor. Kim also enforced in her kids time and time again that marriage is for life, divorce was not really an option, and yet she is deciding to get a divorce from Barry. Many Plathville viewers feel terrible for Lydia Plath, as she has been picking up her mom’s slack by being her younger sisters’ teacher while also playing marriage counselor to her parents.
Ethan and Olivia Plath have also had their share of relationship problems on Welcome to Plathville season 4, as they still have not learned to communicate. Olivia pushes Ethan and he retreats, while he never opens up to her and often makes decisions behind her back (like buying a motorcycle on a whim). Many of their marital issues stem from their problems with his parents, though Ethan has recently been repairing his relationship with Barry. Kim initially liked Ethan’s wife but turned on her when she started exposing Ethan to new things, and has insulted her many times over the course of the show.

Despite being the Plath rebel child, Moriah has gotten close with her parents again. Her hardship has been dealing with her breakup from Max Kallschmidt, and some family drama ensued as a result. Max was good friends with her sister Lydia, as Lydia helped pick out a promise ring with Max for him to give to Moriah. However, Welcome to Plathville fans called Lydia out after her first question when hearing the news of the breakup was to ask if she could still hang out with Max. Though it led to an awkward confrontation, the sisters appear to be closer than ever since having the talk.
