Snapchat for Web doesn’t offer all the features of the mobile app, but it does allow users to post a Snap to their story. Here’s how to do it.
Snapchat now offers a web client that brings a slew of the social media network’s features to the internet, including the ability to post a Snap to a story. As the company continues to add new features to its platform, it turns out that some of that functionality comes at an additional cost. It created Snapchat+, a monthly subscription service that provides extra features for a fee of $3.99 per month. There are unique features that users will receive with a Snapchat+ subscription, like Ghost Trails, a story rewatch count, and the ability to make voice and video calls from Snapchat’s new web client.
However, not all of the features to come to Snapchat’s new web client are locked behind a paywall. The website was long overdue, as competing social media sites offer web clients with varying levels of support. TikTok has a web client that lets users watch shared videos, but is limited in terms of functionality. Twitter is a full-fledged version of the platform when it is opened on the web, with complete feature parity across the website and the application. Facebook and Instagram are similar, with only some limitations when they are accessed on the web. Though Snapchat is still limited when it is accessed on the web, it does offer users the ability to post stories.

To post a story from Snapchat for Web, navigate to the website and log in with a username and password from the desired device. This will work best on a computer, since the mobile applications are better optimized for smartphones. After the user completes the login process, there will be a clear drag-and-drop window where photos and videos can be uploaded. Users can either drag and drop the content into the window or select ‘Choose Video‘ to manually find content stored on a given device. Next, under the ‘Send To‘ pages, select ‘My Story.’ The user will have to read and agree to the Creator Terms, and can click ‘Post To Snapchat‘ to complete the story post.
Snaps On The Web Have The Same Requirements
Though stories uploaded to Snapchat for Web probably haven’t been recorded using the Snapchat application, the platform’s image and video requirements still apply. Videos can be anywhere from five to 60 seconds long to be uploaded to the platform, but videos longer or shorter can’t be posted on Snapchat for Web. The minimum resolution must be 540 x 960, which shouldn’t be an issue for most uploads. Most importantly, Snapchat uses a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio. If videos aren’t shot in that aspect ratio, they’ll be cropped, which might affect their appearance when they are posted. Snapchat for Web offers an easy way to post videos when the app isn’t viable, and makes posting from a computer possible.

Snapchat is best when it is used on a smartphone, but there are some reasons why a user might want to post from a website. The social media network is most functional on a phone since there is no official tablet application — it’s just an upscaled version of the mobile apps. Additionally, the website is still a limited version of Snapchat, so that isn’t ideal either. But for users taking photos and videos using dedicated photo and video cameras like DSLRs, the best way to upload content to a Snapchat story will likely be on the company’s web client.
