Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia reveal that they are very grateful to have had each other while filming as double leads of The Bachelorette.
The Bachelorette season 19 is quickly approaching, and leads Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia declared that they are grateful they were able to film their season together. Though many may not remember, The Bachelorette season 11 featured two women as the leads, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson. Kaitlyn and Britt were pitted against each other, and Kaitlyn was eventually chosen to be the season’s bachelorette. The franchise never used this format again–until now. After Gabby and Rachel lost Clayton Echard’s season of The Bachelor, fans thought both women should be given the opportunity to be the bachelorette, and the franchise granted the wish of the fans.
Though many were excited the women were going to be working together, there was lots of confusion about what the rules for the show would be. Eventually, it was revealed that Gabby and Rachel would not be in a competition and would have the opportunity to have their own love journeys. Once filming for the show ended, Bachelor alum Nick Viall said that producers of The Bachelorette season 19 thought the season was horrible to film, and this format would never be used again. Nick also said that the decision to have two leads was a rash decision; as such, many elements of the show posed challenges for producers.

Despite the producers’ decision to never have two leads again, Gabby and Rachel shared with People that they were very grateful to have each other on this journey. Gabby explained that the experience served as a learning process for her, seeing that neither she nor Rachel knew what it was like to be the bachelorette, let alone with someone else. However, Gabby said that the “experience Rachel and I had as Bachelorettes was so special and memorable. I don’t think we would have had it any other way.” Rachel shared that she found the experience amazing and was glad to have Gabby at her side along the way. Rachel said, “We both get to have our own journeys and our own stories but still have each other along the way.”
Seeing that the two had similar taste in men not too long ago, they decided beforehand that open communication would be the most essential factor between them throughout the journey. “I think Gabby and I just went into it talking to each other and knowing that throughout everything, we just had to have communication,” said Rachel. Gabby shared similar sentiments and said that her relationship with Rachel was the most important thing throughout the journey, and they refused to let the possible romantic relationships throughout their journey to interfere with that. Naturally, the women found some form of attraction in the same guys. However, “it would never be anything that Rachel and I couldn’t figure out on our own, especially always putting our relationship in the forefront of everything,” added Gabby.
