The Bachelorette’s Rachel Recchia sent Jordan Vandergriff home during their one-on-one date. Now he explains why he did not stay to date Gabby Windey.
When Rachel Recchia sent Jordan Vandergriff home during her first one-on-one date on The Bachelorette season 19, some fans wondered why he was not given the opportunity to stay and pursue a relationship with her co-Bachelorette Gabby Windey, and now he explains the reason behind this decision. Jordan, a 27-year-old drag racer from Alpharetta, Georgia, first caught the attention of Rachel, a 26-year-old pilot and flight instructor from Clermont, Florida, when he showed her his bright red race car on night 1 so they could connect about their careers. Rachel was so happy when Jordan told her, “I came here for you.” Although she was disappointed that they did not share a kiss, Jordan had caught her attention.
On the second episode of The Bachelorette, Rachel chose Jordan for the first one-on-one date of the season. They experienced zero gravity together while flying in a plane. Even though Jordan admitted that he was terrified of heights, having Rachel there with him helped him to feel calm. They kissed as they floated in mid-air. Everything seemed to be going well until dinner, when Rachel began to realize that she did not feel any romantic chemistry with Jordan. She told him that she could not give him a rose, and Jordan’s Bachelorette journey came to an end.

However, some fans wondered why Jordan did not have the chance to stay and pursue a relationship with Gabby after his relationship with Rachel ended. On the Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation podcast with hosts Bryan Abasolo and Mike Johnson, Jordan explained that he had watched Rachel and Gabby on Clayton Echard’s season of The Bachelor, and that’s how he knew that he really liked Rachel and only wanted to date her. He felt that he and Rachel would “click a little better.” Jordan said that Rachel is “very sweet, nurturing” and “has that kind of vibe.” He related to her because he also enjoys taking care of his family and friends. He knew that he was “really, really excited to meet Rachel.” When he signed on to be on the show, he knew that Rachel was a possibility for the lead, and he was hoping that it would be her.
Jordan said that he went into the experience of The Bachelorette knowing that he was there for Rachel. He said that Gabby is a great girl, and he wanted to talk to her about her relationship with her grandfather because he is close with his as well. He even has a tattoo that is a tribute to his grandfather. He thought that he could have related to Gabby about some things, but he really went there for Rachel, and he was going to give all of his effort to her. He noticed that some of the guys were smitten with Gabby, but “I was taken by Rachel, and I went for that.”

Jordan was a gentleman on The Bachelorette, and he proved it by leaving the show after his relationship with Rachel did not work out, rather than trying to force a connection with Gabby just to remain on television. The handsome race car driver was kind and respectful, and focused on the one woman with whom he thought he would have the best chance at finding love. Fans of Jordan are now hoping that he will be the next star of The Bachelor.
