You might be wondering what cars are coming out in 2022. That is an excellent thing to think about and this article has just the answers. This list includes all of the future cars, trucks, and SUVs that are coming out in 2022. Also included are new and redesigned models, as well as those receiving a substantial refresh for the 2022 model year. They are listed in alphabetical order below.
Before you go into this ultimate guide to all of the new car models for 2022, we have to let you know some terms.
What Is A Car Model?
A new car model is one that did not previously exist or uses a familiar name but is not a direct replacement. For instance, the 2022 Genesis GV70 is a new model with a new name but the 2022 Ford Maverick is a new model with an old name. Sometimes car companies will use an existing model name for a completely unrelated vehicle. Last year, the FORD Mustang Mach-E was a perfect example of this practice. For 2022, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is also an example. Both of these electric vehicles (EVs) are all-new but share a name that already exists.
What Is A Redesigned Car Model?
A redesigned car model gets a complete redesign between model years. Examples of this include the 2022 Honda Civic and the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Sometimes, the car companies will redesign a model and give it a new name at the same time. For instance, the 2022 Kia Carnival is a redesigned Kia Sedona but with a new name. Next year, the Nissan 370Z would become the 2022 Nissan Z.
What Is A Substantially Refreshed Car Model?
Designing and engineering a vehicle from the ground up is a costly and time-consuming process. To reduce both the price and the time to get a car to market, automakers will sometimes perform a substantial or heavy refresh of an existing model.
Last year, Lexus did this with 2021 IS Sports Sedan and this year, 2022 Subaru BRZ and 2022 Toyota GR 86 followed this practice.
Reportedly, they sit on the same platform as before, but with a new engine, new bodywork, new interior, new technology, and reworked tuning. So, technically they are not completely redesigned, but they are about as close as can be.
