Toyota is arguably one of the most popular automakers of SUVs and hatchbacks, which they offer as quite inexpensive options to other ostentatious hybrid automobiles. They produce cars that fit virtually into anyone’s taste and style. Toyota has been steadily releasing the specified features for its 2023 lineup. The Toyota brand, in essence, is known for its diversity in style, modest engine size, and affordability, making them a constant on Nigerian roads. Toyota really did their homework with the lineup of cars that were manufactured in 2022. The automakers took durability to another level, especially with the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross, which was praised for its super engine.
From the press release of what to expect from the brand, we have composed a list of their upcoming releases in 2023 and what they essentially offer to the public and if they will meet the expectations of Toyota fans.
Toyota Corolla 2023
We would first have to talk about the 2023 Toyota Corolla GR, which has been determined to be one of the prospective releases by the automobile manufacturer in 2023. The specifications have been a personal favourite and are not one to stay in the background. This should be a definite lookout for those who love speed, versatility, and enhanced handling in their hatchbacks. The new and improved GR can boast a standard horsepower of 300 with a 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder and a six-speed manual powertrain and all-wheel drive, but peak torque increases from 273 to 295 lb-ft.
The weight has been reduced significantly by 100 pounds, partly due to the elimination of rear door speakers, rear door regulators, and hatch rear wipers. The entry-level Core model is available in a limited run of 1,500 units in the United States; a Circuit Edition with a carbon-fibre roof and hood; and the ultimate Morizo Edition, limited to just 200 units in its first year (more are planned to be produced in subsequent years) and featuring more torque, different transmission gearing, stickier tires, and several other performance features.

It has been praised for having variety in its lineup and also strong fuel economy, but some critics allege that its driving dynamics are not as refined as some rivals. There has been no specific pricing released for now, but we estimate it to be around twenty million naira.
The Toyota Corolla Hybrid 2023 has been updated with an improved hybrid system and a new lithium-ion battery pack, which headlines the sedan. Two electric motors have also been included in the hybrid version. It has been updated for 2023 while the car has been upgraded with an all-wheel drive. A change has been made to the front and rear exterior styling, also with a next-generation infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus over-the-air updates and the 3.0 of Toyota Safety Sense. We cannot conclude on the starting price of the Corolla Hybrid for now, but it is possibly more expensive than the GR, so it can be assumed the suggested price will start at thirty million naira.

Regarding the rest of the 2023 Toyota Corolla lineup, the exterior styling has been updated on both the sedan and hatchback with new paint colours and a Toyota Audio Multimedia system. The Corolla SE and XSE sedans have been equipped with new standard 18-inch wheels, and the same-sized wheels are available for all trims of the hatchback. The Corolla LE has also upgraded its engine to a 169-horsepower 2.0-litre instead of the 139-horsepower 1.8-liter engine used in the outgoing model. The price for the 2023 Toyota Corolla remains unknown for now, but it will perhaps be the cheapest in the series and should be estimated at ten million naira or above. It is assumed that the 2023 Toyota Corolla models will be made available towards the final quarter of 2022.
2023 Toyota Camry
One of the most significant changes comes with the Nightshade Edition model. It receives the Camry TRD front grille insert and 19-inch wheels finished in matte bronze, as well as a new exterior colour that consists of Reservoir Blue, which replaces Celestial Silver Metallic. Based on the Camry SE, the Nightshade Edition is equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an eight-way power driver’s seat.
There is also a 2023 Toyota Corolla Nightshade Hybrid edition that has received the same performance modifications in relation to the exterior color, headlights, and taillights. Reviews have indicated that it has an efficient fuel economy, good safety features, and a wide variety of trim levels for a hybrid, but it has also been criticized for not being fun to drive and having a low interior quality.
The price for the 2023 Toyota Camry and Camry hybrid will be estimated at around twelve million naira, with an expected arrival of late 2022.
2023 Toyota GR86
The 2022 model was completely redesigned, but the most notable change for the 2023 model is a new limited-unit Special Edition (SE) that is likely a better option than the previous GR86 Premiums, as well as a trim-specific black rear spoiler. A new limited-run Special Edition (SE) model sits above the previously range-topping GR86 Premium.
The 2023 GR86 SE is offered in one colour, Solar Shift orange with black C-pillar stripes, and only 860 copies will be built for the North American market. The GR86 is a relatively affordable car and is known for its rare pure drive and interior, but one of the setbacks of the car is its lack of active safety measures. The 2023 GR86 could go for about nine to thirteen million naira.
Toyota Sienna 2023
For the car’s twenty-fifth anniversary, Toyota commemorates this with a special edition that comes with a dark 20-inch wheel, redesigned front and rear bumpers, a sport-tuned suspension, and a 12 speaker premium audio system, wireless device charging station, heated and ventilated front seat, and illuminated d1oor sills. The Sienna special edition comes with either FWD or AWD with exterior colours of Celestial Silver or Wind Chill Pearl.
It has been praised for being a standard hybrid powertrain and having an available all-wheel drive (AWD), but having an outdated infotainment technology system is a major inconvenience. The Sienna will probably be released in early to mid-2023, as information regarding its release has not been communicated. There is no information about the MSRP yet, but the Toyota Sienna is an inexpensive car, so it should have an average starting price of ten million naira.
2023 Toyota RAV4
The compact RAV4 is one of the most popular Toyota SUV lineups, and the new model for 2023 brings a hybrid special edition and some new technology. It is possible that it will have updated features such as TRD-tuned suspension, all-terrain tires, taller roof rails in black, and a 120-volt household power outlet in the cargo area.
It also has the extra off-road capability for the hybrid edition and updated software for the RAV4. It is well known for its sharp design, efficient powertrain, and strong driver assist features, but its setback is the coarse base engine. It is estimated at a price of fifteen million naira and above.
2023 Toyota Venza
This is Toyota’s hybrid-only midsize SUV. The Venza has a number of significant improvements and updates for the new model. The infotainment system and the Toyota 2.5 Safety Sense are upgraded. There is also a wireless charging pad for all trims with a standard 7.0-inch instrument cluster display.
The Limited’s highest grade now comes with a head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, an eight-way power passenger seat, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which was previously optional but now comes standard on the XLE. The pros of getting the Venza outweigh the cons, with the upscale interior fittings, strong fuel economy, standard active safety features and comfortable cabin; the cons being its coarse engine and loud tire noise speed. The estimated price for the Toyota Venza is fourteen million naira.
2023 Toyota Highlander
The model was due for a reformation and Toyota began this process with an all-new 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, replacing the old V-6. A standard 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a hands-free power liftgate are added features to the XLE and XSE mid-level trim levels.
The Highlander is proficient with its large available display, many standard safety features, modern new engine, efficient available hybrid model, and ample cargo space, but it has some issues with an unexciting driving experience. The price of the 2023 model has been evaluated to begin at twenty million naira.
2023 Toyota 4Runner
For 2023, Toyota isn’t making any big changes to the 4Runner, but it is releasing a new limited edition in celebration of the truck’s 10th anniversary. Based on the SR5 Premium, the 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition features gorgeous TRD Pro bronze wheels with retro-inspired red, orange, and yellow striping that is reminiscent of Ivan “Ironman” Stewart’s Baja race trucks. One of the more collectable fifth-generation 4Runners is finished off with distinctive badging and interior accents.
The 4Runner has been praised for its off-road capability, strong value retention, and sizable cargo volume, but it has failed to meet some expectations due to its vague steering and poor efficiency. The 2023 Toyota 4Runner has an average starting price of twenty-five million naira.
2023 Toyota bZ4X
The sole completely new Toyota model for 2023 is the dubious-sounding bZ4X, which is also the automaker’s first mass-market electric vehicle. The bZ4X is the first of seven Toyota EVs with the “bZ” designation that was developed in conjunction with Subaru, which has its own version of the electric SUV called the Solterra. The new battery-powered SUV has a range of up to 252 miles and is available with a single-motor FWD or dual-motor AWD.
It also comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which enhances active safety features using new sensors and cameras. It has been praised for its available all-wheel drive (AWD), electric drivetrains, the distinctive design of the interior and exterior, one-pedal driving mode, and usable ground clearance, but criticized for its limited driving range and slow rate of charge. The bZ4X is the first of its kind and the price has not been assessed, so we will have to keep our fingers crossed until it is released.
2023 Toyota Sequoia
In addition to the bZ4x, which may be the only new nameplate for 2023, Toyota is launching a completely revamped third-generation Sequoia. With an available 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electric power seats, a hybrid twin-turbo V-6 in place of the outdated V-8, and a complete complement of standard driver assistance systems, Toyota’s full-size three-row is more contemporary than ever.
In addition, the now-discontinued (for North America, at least) TRD Pro model will be replaced by the new top-of-the-line Capstone trim. The estimated price for the Sequoia will be valued at twenty million naira, and the release date hasn’t been confirmed but will likely be in late 2022 or early 2023.
