The Lucid Air is an all-electric luxury sedan with incredible range and speed, and buyers have several convenient charging options at their disposal.
The 2022 Lucid Air is an all-electric sedan that boasts an incredible suite of EV credentials, but how resourceful is it when it comes to charging at home and in public places? Built to impress, the Lucid Air competes with electric sedans like the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Tesla Model S. Considering the stiff competition in the EV segment today, Lucid Motors seems to have spared no expense in developing a state-of-the-art flagship model. Although this is Lucid’s first dip in the EV pool, the California-based automaker has acquired a sizable amount of experience with its battery production business.
Founded in 2007, Lucid Motors originally focused on building EV batteries and powertrains for other automakers. The company is most famous for supplying batteries to cars used in Formula E races. By 2013, the company had gathered enough experience in the development of battery packs and started to consider the possibility of developing a vehicle. This dream was encouraged by the hiring of Peter Rawlinson, a seasoned engineer. He had just left Tesla after serving as the Chief Engineer for the Model S. After years of planning and execution, a prototype of the Lucid Air was unveiled in 2016 as a performance-focused car. As consumers awaited the eventual release, the Lucid Air gained momentum by beating Jaguar’s I-Pace and Tesla’s Model S at the racetrack.

As the world gradually embraces EVs, consumers must choose their preferred model from a wide range of EVs in the sedan, pickup, and SUV categories. The 2022 Lucid Air is built for consumers looking for a vehicle equipped with a ton of power and speed. Lucid Motors claims that its EV not only occupies first place concerning fast charging, but offers the longest range obtainable in an EV today. With such incredible range stats (between 446 miles and 520 miles), how can drivers charge this EV? The Lucid Air can offer up to 300 miles of range with a 20-minute charge. EVs that support multiple levels of charging options tend to fascinate drivers, considering that charging stations are yet to dominate the globe like gas stations. Plus, not all EVs are compatible with available charging stations.
Advanced Home Charging Solutions
The Lucid Air benefits from its manufacturer’s heritage of battery production and next-gen technology. Equipped with a unique Wunderbox battery charger, the EV is compatible with almost all public charging stations in the US. Wunderbox charging can recognize the driver’s EV, regulate the inflow of voltage, and optimize voltage for quicker charging times. Also, there are plans to equip the Lucid Air with bi-directional capabilities for public charging soon.

To facilitate easy charging on the go, Lucid Motors has partnered with Electrify America. This means that drivers can enjoy between one to two years of free charging (350 kW chargers included) at any of Electrify America’s network of 700 public charging stations and over 3,200 public chargers. Additionally, the duration of complimentary charging depends on the trim. Charging the Lucid Air at home is equally effortless, with a special Lucid Connected Home Charging Station available for installation. The station supports around 19.2 kW of bidirectional power and several levels of connectivity. The station is designed to charge the Lucid Air even if there’s a power outage. An active partnership with Qmerit ensures that 2022 Lucid Air drivers experience seamless installation of the home charging station.
