The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans got to see Crystal Kung Minkoff’s brother Jeffrey Kung make a return, and fans are now wondering about his music career. Viewers were first introduced to Jeffery last season when Crystal filmed her first season of the Bravo series. Crystal had mentioned her brother’s career in passing; however, when he’s home in Los Angeles, Jeffery is her babysitter. Despite only appearing on screen in one episode, Jeffrey caught the interest of RHOBH fans.
What really surprised viewers about Crystal’s brother is his illustrious music career in China. Jeffrey is a well-known singer in the country, which took many viewers by surprise. However, Crystal had a lot more drama going on with Sutton Stracke last season, and Jeffrey never made another appearance. However, on Wednesday night’s new RHOBH episode, viewers got to see Jeffrey again. This time he, Crystal, and Crystal’s husband, Rob Minkoff, gossiped about the drama going on in her friend group.
So how did Jeffrey become the music sensation in China that he is today? Well, while Jeffery was studying abroad at Beijing’s Peking University, he was offered a record deal (via Distractify). While on the Gaysian podcast, Jeffrey revealed that he got his big break in music by accident. “One day, I was singing a tune at a local karaoke and was discovered by a talent agent,” the singer admitted. “Despite my parents being born in China, I didn’t even speak Mandarin at the time and had no training as a singer or even a musical background.” From there, Jeffrey recorded his first hip-hop album, even winning a Chinese Grammy for New Artist of the Year in 2001, a year before he graduated from the University of Michigan. After winning this prestigious award, Jeffrey moved to China and has been living there for over 20 years.
Since his first album, Jeffrey has released four more albums in China. However, only two of his albums seem to be available in the U.S. KUNG, which was released on Spotify in 2017, and another album that was released in 2013. Some of Jeffrey’s hit songs include, “Real Life,” “Dream Girl,” “Running,” and “Boss.” In the past, Jeffrey has described his musical style as “all over the map,” creating music for genres such as hip-hop, rock, and rap. Jeffrey’s music video for his song “Slide” was even featured on an episode of RHOBH season 11. Bustle also revealed that Jeffrey started China’s first hip-hop radio show thanks to his booming singing career. Crystal and Rob enjoy Jeffrey’s music so much that they even had him perform at their 2007 wedding reception.
Jeffrey’s music career is a lot more well-known than fans of RHOBH originally thought. Not only does he have multiple albums under his belt, but a Grammy as well. It’s safe to say RHOBH fans are hoping for more Jeffrey appearances this season and maybe a musical performance.
