Tyson Apostol is one of The Challenge USA’s biggest names, and his athletic background makes him a major threat to win any physical competition.
Though it’s still early in the season for The Challenge USA, the show’s biggest name, four-time Survivor player Tyson Apostol, has also proven himself to be the biggest threat to win. Tyson not only played Survivor four times, but he also won the title of Sole Survivor in his third season, Survivor: Blood vs. Water. Tyson is considered a Survivor legend by many fans and is well-known for his sardonic wit and biting confessionals, as well as for his strategic acumen and physical prowess.
Coming into The Challenge USA as one of the season’s most famous names, Tyson could have found himself in a tough spot early on. There’s no doubt that Tyson could be seen by his fellow competitors as a risky player to keep in the game, but Tyson won the first two challenges, with two different partners (Big Brother‘s Angela Rummans and Love Island‘s Justine Ndiba), guaranteeing him safety and giving him and his partners the ability to designate other pairs for elimination. Tyson, in working with his partners, was able to knock several strong players, including modern Big Brother legend Tiffany Mitchell, out of the game and has solidified alliances with several power players in the game.

Tyson is a major threat to win the first season of The Challenge USA. He has been absolutely dominant in two of the first four challenges, and it’s unlikely that any of the other players are itching to face him in an elimination competition. Tyson has a major edge over the majority of his competitors, most of whom have very little experience in high-stakes physical competitions. Tyson, on the other hand, is a two-sport professional athlete and a former Division I college athlete in a third sport. He was a professional cyclist for many years and is currently a professional pickleball player. Tyson also has extensive experience as a swimmer for Brigham Young University and holds swimming records at his alma mater, where his name and records still hang in the rafters.
It’s inarguable that Tyson is an elite athlete. He’s one of two professional athletes on The Challenge USA cast, with former NFL player Danny McCray being the other. Tyson’s physical capabilities, coupled with his impressive Survivor resume and strategic skills, give him an advantage over the vast majority of the competition he faces. He also can’t get voted out of the game for being a threat like he was in Survivor: Winners at War. Instead, whoever wants to eliminate him from the game will have to beat him in a physical competition, a feat that only a select few members of the Challenge USA cast are even capable of achieving.

It’s possible that Tyson faces some obstacles in The Challenge USA and comes short of winning, but it would be a major surprise if he went out early. Though some players have caught onto him, including the recently eliminated Survivor alumna Shan Smith, Tyson has also made strategic inroads in the game by aligning with Angela, another strong player, and he has already garnered enough Challenge money to compete in the season’s final. It would be shocking if Tyson left the game any time soon because he seems like the type of player who is in it for the long haul.
