T-Mobile has launched two new affordable 5G smartphones called the REVVL 6 and REVVL 6 Pro. 5G is becoming more widespread in the U.S., thanks to AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon launching their own 5G networks across most of the country. As for T-Mobile, the carrier’s mid-band 2.5 GHz deployment reached 200 million people last year, with plans to reach 300 million by the end of this year. However, many customers remain underwhelmed by 5G services, with complaints about mmWave’s reliability and sub-6 networks’ speed continuing to plague carriers as they move ahead with their deployment plans.
Meanwhile, as the carriers are moving full-steam ahead with their 5G networks, they’re also shutting down their 3G services. AT&T officially shut down its 3G network on Feb. 22, 2022, while Sprint’s 3G network was shut down on May 31, 2022. T-Mobile killed off its own 3G network earlier this month, while Verizon is scheduled to do so by Dec. 31, 2022. US Cellular continues to operate a 3G network but has announced that it also plans to shut it down at some stage. With 3G networks fast becoming history, the carriers are offering users who are still hanging on to 3G phones a free upgrade to a 4G or 5G device.
According to an official T-Mobile press release, the REVVL 6 5G and REVVL 6 PRO 5G were developed in partnership with Google and come with YouTube Premium and Google One subscriptions. They will both be available at T-Mobile and Metro starting Aug. 4. Regarding tech specs, the 6 Pro is the more powerful of the two devices and comes with a 6.82-inch HD+ display. In addition, it is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 SoC, which includes an octa-core CPU and the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. It also comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Imaging options include a quad-camera setup at the back, including a 50MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary camera alongside a couple of obligatory 2MP sensors. The front-facing selfie cam on the REVVL 6 Pro is a 16MP unit. In terms of features, the phone offers face unlock and also has a fingerprint sensor. It sports a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging. The phone runs Android 12 and comes in a Dark Shadow colorway. It is priced at $219.99, but eligible customers can get it at zero down payment and then $9.17 each month for 24 months, plus tax.
Coming to the REVVL 6, it features a slightly smaller 6.52-inch HD+ display and is powered by the same Dimensity 700 SoC that powers the 6 Pro. However, it comes with only 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. The REVVL 6 sports a 13MP primary camera and a couple of additional 2MP image sensors as part of a triple camera setup at the back, while the front-facing camera is a 5MP unit. It also comes with a smaller 4,500mAh battery and is offered in a China Blue color. Like the 6 Pro, it also offers face unlock and a fingerprint sensor and runs Android 12 out-of-the-box. The REVVL 6 5G is priced at $169.99, but qualified customers can get it at zero down and then $7.09 monthly for 24 months, plus tax.
