Vanderpump Rules star Tom Schwartz talks being newly single amid his divorce from Katie Maloney. The co-stars split in March after 12 years together.
Tom Schwartz opens up about being newly single amid his divorce from Vanderpump Rules co-star Katie Maloney. After months of rumors, Schwartz and Katie announced their split in March. The pair were together for 12 years, and married for six. However, it turned out their marriage wasn’t initially legal due to a paperwork mishap. In 2019, viewers saw them renew their vows in Las Vegas to make things official.
Soon after the split was confirmed, it came out that Katie ultimately made the decision. Meanwhile, her ex admitted to having a difficult time coming to terms with it. He even continued to wear his wedding band for some time. The aftermath of their split will likely be covered on their reality TV show, as Bravo renewed Vanderpump Rules for season 10. Katie, who left Tom to prioritize her happiness, has opened up about the transition on her own podcast, as well as other media appearances. Now, Schwartz is revealing where he stands amid the life-changing break-up.

Schwartz spoke about his post-separation life amid to Page Six on Tuesday, July 27th. The interview took place during the soft opening of his and Tom Sandoval’s new bar, Schwartz & Sandy’s. The 39-year-old admitted that, after being in a relationship for over a decade, the single life was an adjustment. “I’m sort of relearning how to be single, which is strange,” he said. The Bravo star added that he’s primarily been concerned with the new bar, calling it a “great thing to focus on” during his split. His best friend/business partner Sandoval added, “He hasn’t even had time to be single!” Despite the impending divorce, Page Six reported that Katie, who has started dating again, was in attendance at the event. Schwartz did not appear to interact much with his former wife, but when they did, the former spouses seemed friendly. Also in attendance was Sandoval’s partner, Ariana Madix, who plans to start a sandwich shop with Katie.
The bar was a major focus of Vanderpump Rules season 9. It caused a lot of drama between Katie and Sandoval, and viewers criticized Schwartz for not standing up for his wife. The Toms joked about that in the interview, referencing all the fighting that occurred over the name. While Schwartz’s marriage ended, he emphasized that his friendship with Sandoval is stronger than other. Meanwhile, Sandoval praised Schwartz for continuing to be a supportive friend despite his personal life drama.

The bar’s soft opening is the latest time the former spouses appeared cordial in public. However, the divorce has caused drama amongst their co-stars. Katie’s pal Lala Kent has “no sympathy” for Schwartz and implied he was at fault for the split. Raquel Leviss claimed Katie asked her castmates to choose sides in the divorce, which the You’re Gonna Love Me podcast host refuted. Raquel and Lala also happen to be going through splits on their own, from DJ James Kennedy and disgraced producer Randall Emmett respectively. With all these major break-ups, the show will likely be much different from seasons past when it returns.
