NBC announces the upcoming premiere date for The Voice season 22. Camila Cabello will join coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend and Gwen Stefani.
After months of speculation, NBC finally announced a premiere date for The Voice season 22. The popular singing competition didn’t air a season in the spring of 2022 for the first time since it first premiered in 2011. The Voice has normally aired two seasons each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. But this fall will be the first season of The Voice since last winter. The Voice season 21 saw longtime coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson return with a new coach, music superstar Ariana Grande. She was a popular addition to the coaching panel, but she will not be coming back for season 22.
Speaking of coaches on The Voice, there will be a bit of a shakeup to the big red chairs this coming season. Pop star Camila Cabello will be a coach for the first time in season 22. She served as a mentor for the Battle Rounds during season 21, where she helped the artists on John’s team. John is returning to The Voice for his seventh season, while Blake will be back for his 22nd season, having been there since the show’s beginning. Blake’s wife, Gwen Stefani, will return to The Voice as a coach for her sixth season, having last appeared in season 19, where she won with young singer Carter Rubin.
According to NBC Insider, The Voice season 22 will premiere on Monday, September 19 at 8 p.m. EDT. The show will air new episodes on Tuesdays in the fall as well, also at 8 p.m. EDT. This schedule is typical for The Voice, as the show is one of the few on the network that airs two nights a week. The Voice has been one of the most popular shows on NBC for years. The announcement also said that episodes will be available to stream on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, the day after they air.
One major shakeup for The Voice season 22 is that it will be the first time since 2018 that Kelly is not sitting on the coaching panel. She joined the show in season 14 and has been a favorite ever since, winning four of her eight seasons. Kelly is also the reigning champion among the coaches, as her folk trio Girl Named Tom took home the grand prize in season 21. Kelly is taking time off from numerous projects to spend more time with her children after her divorce, which means fans won’t be seeing her for the next season of The Voice.

The Voice premiere date is not surprising, considering the show has usually premiered in mid-to-late September during its fall seasons. Fans will be waiting in anticipation for Camila to make her coaching debut, and it will be interesting to see if she has what it takes to beat champions Blake, John and Gwen. With no spring season this year, this fall will serve as a welcome return for the singing competition. Now that the premiere date is set, excitement around the new season of The Voice will definitely continue to build.
