When Welcome to Plathville season 1 debuted in 2019, Barry and Kim were a solid team, who set strict rules that their children had to follow. As devout Christian fundamentalists, the Plath parents forbade their kids from consuming popular indulgences like soda, sugar, and modern technology.
Although fans have criticized Barry and Kim’s marriage since the start of Welcome to Plathville, it wasn’t until season 4 that serious cracks started to show. While their kids have started to move out and enjoy their lives as adults, Kim has also tapped into a new lifestyle. Besides now owning a dance studio, Kim dresses less modestly, has more friends, and has generally become a little less strict. Kim Made The Conversation About Her
Viewers tuning into Welcome to Plathville have long described Kim as “manipulative.” and while it’s possible that Kim didn’t realize how she was directing the conversation at the time, Redditors agreed that Kim focused too much on herself, and not on her children. Fans particularly took issue with Kim’s admission that her eventual divorce from Barry would lead to the kids seeing “a much happier Mom,” given that later confessionals show them clearly upset at the prospect of their parents’ future. “Kim believes that if she’s not happy, her whole family should suffer. I feel horrible for these kids!” one user ranted.
Kim Revealed Too Much Information
While fans consider Barry to be far from perfect, Redditors discussing a recent Welcome to Plathville episode agree that Kim gave too much detail when discussing her problems with him. Several users called out Kim for speaking to her children like “they were her therapist,” and many believe that Kim should discuss her specific marital problems with no one but Barry. “[Kim] complains of communication issues when she’s also doing the same,” one Redditor commented, which another responded with, “Adult problems should be kept between the adults.”

Finally, Welcome to Plathville fans are upset with how Kim handled the conversation with her kids, because she used the word “divorce,” with them before explicitly saying it to Barry. While Kim claims in the episode that she accidentally brought up divorce, viewers taking to Reddit aren’t buying it. “Saying the word ‘divorce’ to her daughters before saying it to [Barry] is pretty egregious,” one user commented. Another hypothesized that Kim is “waiting for “the little girls” to tell Barry they’re getting divorced,” instead.
