The INZONE H9 headphones are the best of Sony’s new gamer-focused headsets, but the INZONE H7 offer enough at a cheaper price to satisfy most gamers.
There’s no doubting that the INZONE H9 headphones are the best of Sony’s new lineup of gaming headsets, but the INZONE H7 may actually be a better buy when taking everything into consideration. In June, Sony launched three new gamer-focused headphones with the entry-level INZONE H3 completing the lineup. No matter which headset a buyer opts for, they get access to Sony’s personalized spatial sound experience.
At the top of the INZONE list is the H9 headphones. Priced at $299 in the US, these headphones not only support spatial audio when gaming, but also noise cancelation that’s been inherited from the company’s WH-1000X series. The INZONE H9 also makes use of the same soft fit leather found on the company’s WH-1000XM5 headphones. The INZONE H7 headphones are priced at $229 in the United States and come with many of the same features and benefits as the H9. For those that want to save as much as possible, there’s also the $99 INZONE H3 headphones. For reference, Sony isn’t just focusing its new INZONE brand on just headphones, as the company also plans to release a couple of new gaming monitors later in 2022.

Priced at $70 less than the INZONE H9, the INZONE H7 are cheaper headphones, and that already makes them a more appealing option. As to be expected, the price difference does also mean the INZONE H7 are less premium, but the differences are few and whether it is worth paying an additional $70 on top of the $229 price of the INZONE H7 remains to be seen. To be clear, if wanting the best experience possible, the H9 headset is the one to go for. However, the main differences do come down to noise canceling and the soft fit leather. Both of which are probably not as important as all the H9 features that you do get with the H7.
The INZONE H7 Game For Longer
Noise canceling is the main selling point of the H9 headphones, and while the noise cancelation works pretty well, this is typically a feature more commonly useful when in a busy place where there is plenty of background noise. For example, when out and about or during a long-haul flight. However, none of the INZONE H-series headphones are particularly designed for on-the-go usage, that’s more what the WH-1000X series of headphones are designed for. Of course, serious gamers may want to make sure they can lock out any and all background noise, and for them, the H9 headphones are likely to be a better option. For most other gamers, however, noise cancelation is likely to be a nice, but unnecessary feature.

Furthermore, noise cancelation does come at a cost to battery life. Both the INZONE H7 and H9 wirelessly connect to gaming machines. With no option to wire-connect them, the battery become an important part of the experience. While the INZONE H9 are rated to last up to 32 hours on a single charge, the H7 are rated to offer up to 40 hours before needing to be recharged again. Of course, the INZONE H9 headphones do also boast soft fit leather, and while this might be worth paying an additional $70 for, is it really? For most gamers looking to take advantage of Sony’s gaming headset design, spatial audio, and wireless connectivity, the INZONE H7 headphones are cheaper and probably the better buy.
