Tesla is already working on a Cybertruck, new Roadster, and a Robotaxi, but a new Robovan could also be in the works. Then again, it might not be.
Tesla might be working on a new Robovan if a recent Elon Musk Tweet is anything to go by. While it is not totally surprising to hear the suggestion that Tesla might be working on a new vehicle, the company is already working on a lot, many of which have already seen delays in production and delivery. Of course, Musk and his companies are often thinking more long term than the right now.
Tesla currently offers four main vehicles for consumers to choose from and ranging from the cheapest Model 3 to the most expensive Model X. There are some additional variants available as well, such as the Plaid models, but generally there are four models to choose from. On top of these, Tesla has already confirmed it is working on multiple other vehicles, including the Cybertruck and a new Tesla Roadster.

Adding to that list of coming soon vehicles could be a Tesla Robovan. The suggestion came from Elon Musk himself who Tweeted that “maybe Tesla should” make a Robovan. Naturally, the Tweet quickly garnered plenty of attention and comments, with Musk replying with a winking face emoji to one asking whether it was possible to make something larger than the Model X. In another reply, Musk touted the possibility of an optional solar power canopy that increases the roof area. For what it’s worth, Tesla also makes solar panels as well. According to the original Tweet, the Robovan would be “highly configurable” to account for whether it was carrying people or cargo.
Add A Robovan To The Tesla Waiting List?
The idea of a Tesla Robovan, and especially one that can easily be adjusted to carry goods instead of people, is not too far out of the realms of reality. Tesla is already working on a Robotaxi which is expected to ferry people around. A potential Robovan could just as easily be part of the same fleet and used to ferry even more people around, or cargo when needed. Even at the consumer level, there could be reason to release an electric van considering models like the ID.Buzz are already on their way and attracting a lot of attention.

When a Robovan might potentially launch is a totally different question. There’s currently no firm word on when the Robotaxi will arrive other than a suggestion of 2024 at the earliest, and even as the highly sought-after Cybertruck edges closer to release, it has seen a number of delays with the latest pushing back the release to sometime in 2023. Next year is also when the new Tesla Roadster is expected to land, pending any further delays. Even if a Tesla Robovan is in the works, it may take some time getting here.
