The 2024 Silverado EV is the first electric Silverado to be produced. Here are what drivers can expect fro this EV’s top speed and acceleration.
Chevrolet introduces the 2024 Silverado EV to the electic vehicle market as the brand’s flagship electric truck. Pickup trucks are arguably one of America’s pastimes, mainly because of their incredible off-road and towing capabilities. It took Chevrolet a while to develop an electric pickup truck, though the pandemic can be blamed due to the persistent semiconductor shortage. However, the Silverado EV looks like a fitting peace offering though the model enters a segment saturated with competent alternatives like Rivian’s R1T and Ford’s F-150 Lightning. Also, Chevrolet’s sibling, GMC, offers an electric version of the Hummer with some terrific features.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV will be released as a 2024 model, with the North American market set to receive the EV sometime in 2023. General Motors, Chevrolet’s parent company, is expected to build the EV from scratch at its Factory Zero Hamtramck assembly center. Equipped with an investment worth $7 billion and a recent upgrade of its facilities, GM CEO Mary Berra is optimistic about her company’s ability to develop 600,000 electric pickups yearly. GM’s $7 billion EV investment is the highest that the automaker has announced and affirms GM’s resolve to threaten Tesla’s position as a top EV maker. The Silverado EV was unveiled at the 2022 edition of the consumer electronics show (CES) held in Jan. 2022.

In a market where automakers already offer electric pickup trucks, one of the deciding factors for buying one will be the top speed and acceleration stats. While there’s no official announcement of the Silverado EV’s top speed, Chevrolet claims that the EV can race up to 60 mph from zero within 4.5 seconds. The Silverado EV offers up to 400 miles of driving range and up to 660 hp depending on trim. The Silverado EV relies on a 200 kWh battery pack capable of offering 100 miles of range after 10 minutes of charging. In addition, the Silverado EV is fitted with a unique E-4WD configuration that enables the truck to provide the four wheels with instant power.
Chevrolet Silverado EV Trims, Battery And Charging
The 2024 Silverado EV will be available in three trims. The Work Truck (WT) will be the base trim, while the second trim will be the Trail Boss, designed specifically for off-road adventures. The premium trim, RST, isn’t expected to be launched until Fall 2023. The WT trim starts at $39,000. Chevrolet claims that other trims will retail from $50,000 to over $80,000, depending on the range and available features. The Silverado EV is built on GM’s Ultium platform, which epitomizes the automaker’s vision for all-electric vehicles. However, Ultium isn’t just a platform on which the first-ever electric Silverado is built. It is also designed to enable the mass production of battery packs and enhance the center of gravity to optimize vehicle handling abilities.

Charging the Silverado EV is relatively easy, considering that the pickup can either be charged at home or at public charging stations. At home, drivers can either use a 120V (Level ) charger or a 240V (Level 2) charger. However, the Level 2 charger will need to be installed by a professional. On-the-go charging is possible with the 2024 Silverado EV, as drivers can choose from a 240V charger or a DC fast charger. Locating charging stations is simple with the myChevrolet mobile app. The software enables drivers to find compatible charging stations and also check the EV’s battery status.
